First overnight, wave and words... sort of

YOU!!!!

WeeZ had several firsts this week. Tuesday, Zach finally waved BACK at us when we were waving bye bye to him. He has been practicing for weeks, but only under low pressure circumstancess - like dinner, when he would wave and wave at us from his high chair. Now, he will wave to us and others when we go bye bye!
As you can see from the fabulously timed snapshot above, he has also learned to point at what he wants. Zach adores the strap on my camera. Things that Zach loves best, and will point at to get, in order of importance to him: 1) mommy or daddy's keys, 2) anybody else's keys, 3) the camera strap, 4) kitties, and 5) his magic wand. (The wand is a long plastic stick that he uses to wack the mirror and window in the backseat while we are driving.)

We Party Like it's 1959

Because of all these advances, we thought he was finally mature enough to go out on his own for a night. So, we packed him off to Grandpa Mark and Grandma Janipop's house for an overnight. Apparently, he handled it like a champ - so long as someone was reading a story to him continuously and didn't try to touch his duck or his puppy. Congrats baby, you did great. And we were so thankful for our night off. Our Fifties Party was a smash hit; or at least the two of us had a great time!

As for the first words, I think we can finally pinpoint one. He has been saying mamamamama (when upset) for a few weeks, and dadadada (when playing or when dad picks him up in the morning). Wednesday, I was reading Eric Carle's "Very Busy Spider" to him, and read "Neigh, Neigh, said the horse..." Zach repeated, "Neigh, Neigh" right after me! Interestingly enough, his Aunt Hannah's first words was "Meow". I suppose in fairness, I can't really call it his first word because it wasn't overtly clear that he knew what he was saying. But it was pretty cool anyhow. Perhaps it's time to go see the farm animals in Tennessee and start working on other farm words.
No, the REAL first word didn't happen quite yet, but we will keep you posted...

Congrats to Zach and his parents for making through the first sleep over. Was there a little alcohol involved in helping you make it through the night? I don't really believe that the the chairs were all the tricky. Do love the dress and how you tend take pictures of your culinary creations. I seem to remember a picture of some other alvocado dish . . . perhaps on your mom's web page.

What's a Ham Ball???
1:30 AM
Good question. Stovy. We used cookbooks from the fifties to make our apps and fingerfoods. Most incorporated large amounts of mayonaisse, processed cheese or pimento cheese stuff. The ham ball was all of the above, and some deviled ham and chopped olives. So gross. Amazingly, everyone ate all the fifties food - save the ham ball. That was too much to ask, I suppose.

The hamball never made it out of the fridge. Deviled ham is not the right consistency to form a ball that can then be coated with cream cheese and mayo. Instead it sort of melts into whatever form's supporting it. Probably because it's about 80% devil.

i'm amazed that the hamball wasn't worked over with fireworks or doused with gasoline and lit on fire.
